Welcome to the Center for Tutoring and Learning Support Services! We are Located at: Howard University, Academic Services Building - B 2204 Fourth Street, NW Washington, D.C., 20059 

Tutoring and Learning Support Services offers development math courses, free tutoring and tutoring lab, and a range of academic support services and programs.

Our Mission

Support student success in mathematics as a gateway to their overall achievement at Howard University. The program primarily provides academic support to Howard students to help assure their preparedness for credit-bearing, college-level math courses as identified by their math placement exam scores.

Our Vision

The Center for Tutoring and Learning Support Services aims to assure that every undergraduate student of Howard University is proficient in their respective math courses. 

Study Hall

TLSS offers study hall hours the week before midterms and finals. During study hall, students can meet with tutors and selective faculty to review study guides and answer questions.

Tutoring Center Hours

  • Monday - Thursday: 9:00 am - 9:00 pm
  • Friday: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Becoming a Tutor

  1. Applicants must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
  2. It’s preferable for the tutor to have achieved an A in the course; there may be cases where we would consider a B.
  3. 3 hour (max) time commitment per week per tutee.
  4. Must attend all tutoring workshops and training.
  5. Tutoring experience desirable, but not necessarily required.
  1. Meet with students promptly at pre-scheduled times and locations.
  2. Help students master course material by coaching them to independently complete their assignments.
  3. Maintain current and accurate records of hours worked.
  4. Review the tutor manual and sign the confirmation form denoting your understanding of the material listed.
  5. Must be available to tutor between 2pm to 9pm Monday-Friday and 9am to 2pm on Saturday and Sunday.
  1. A completed application online.
  2. Resume/CV.
  3. 2 recommendation letters from the faculty member of the course you want to teach.
  4. An official transcript.
