The Second Year Experience Program at Howard University enhances degree completion and graduation rates.

Welcome the the HU Second Year Experience!

SYEServices provided by the Office of Undergraduate Studies focus on the successful academic journey of Howard University's undergraduate student population. Research shows that the Second Year experiences of undergraduate students have an impact on degree completion and graduation rates. As OUS leads Howard University's participation in Lumina Foundation's "HBCU Student Success Project", we are launching a program that:

The following are events planned for the Spring 2018 Second Year Experience (SYE) program, organized and hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Studies!  



March 5: Opening event - Program Introduction and Overview
March 6: 2nd Year Degree Planning Workshop - Center for Academic Excellence
March 7: Career Services - "Choosing the Best Career Offer"  
March 8: Peer-to-Peer Conversations: "If I Had To Do It All Over" - an interactive student discussion between second year and third, fourth-year students!
March 9: Second Year Degree Planning Workshop - Center for Academic Excellence
Your Graduation, is Our Motivation!



The HU-SYE Program will host workshops pertaining to:
  • Academic Support;
  • Financial Aid/Literacy/Management and Scholarships; 
  • Career Planning/Experiential Learning; and
  • Pre-Finals Study Hall - Tutoring and Learning Support Services


OUS will host SYE Focus Groups with varying HU stakeholders, including students, to encourage discourse and heighten insight of best practices and events for the HU Second Year Experience.
