Personal and Social Responsibility
The General Education Committee determined that the following are Student Learning Disciplines for the Essential Learning Outcome, Personal and Social Responsibility.
-
Ethical Reasoning
-
Social Sciences and Historical Awareness
-
Physical and Mental Health
-
Civic Knowledge and Engagement
Schools and colleges were asked to discuss areas of agreement and areas for improvements to submit to the General Education Committee.
The School of Education suggested including leadership or ethical leadership as a Student Learning Outcome for Personal and Social Responsibility. They also mentioned that leadership is mentioned in Howard's Mission statement as a core value. Leadership as an essential learning outcome was also mentioned, in discussion, by the College of Arts & Sciences.
Additionally, the College of Arts and Sciences expressed that the initial proposed framework did not require students to learn about understanding the past and that such a course can be taken in the Department of History or in a social science or humanities department.
